Parent Action Committee (PAC) Update

Hello, Colorado SKIES Academy community!

Your PAC team is starting the hard work to influence the delivery and outcomes of school life while also enriching and building a greater sense of community. We desperately need more parent volunteers to support this work. If anyone has any availability at all, we could use help to make the school even better for our kids. Please email pac@coloradoskiesacademy.org if you can help, even just for one event! We are also in need of a parent who can lead and assist CSA in setting up a Learner Advisory Council. There is a lot of interest from learners, but we need parent support to implement and run it with learners. The next PAC meeting is at CSA on Monday, December 11th at 3:45 pm and we hope to see you there. In the meantime, we are excited to share what we’ve been up to the last couple of months.

  • The Winter Festival & Dance will take place on Friday, December 15th from 1:30-3:30 pm at CSA. Planned activities include art, games, music, a quiet room, and hopefully a photo booth! If you can help with planning, set-up, chaperoning, or tear-down at any time, please email pac@coloradoskiesacademy.org.

Thank you for supporting Colorado SKIES Academy at our recent restaurant fundraisers!

  • The Chipotle event brought in $149.18, and CSA’s earnings from Red Robin were $144.57. Our next restaurant night is on January 15, 2024, at Panda Express (8515 Park Meadows Center Drive) and our school will receive 20% of the sales!
  • Our learners sold 202 items in the Butter Braids campaign, more than $3,000, and Butter Braids gave 40% of the sales to the school! Order pickup is on Monday, December 11th at CSA starting at 3:30 pm.

Brainstorming ideas for future community-building events:

  • Chili Cook-Off: Ticketed event for chili cook-off along with a bake sale. An initial thought is to have this in March during March Madness.
  • Game Night: Family board games get together at CSA with food and beverages for sale and bring everyone together! Set up in the Village with Poker, Uno, sorry, trouble, and small, simple games. BYOBG and join the fun!
  • Epic Yard Sale: Flyers distributed around the community for an EPIC INDOOR Yard Sale at the school. Everyone brings and sells their own “treasures”. This would be a great way for kids to help sell stuff, school to raise money, and to show off our school to the community! We were thinking of spring cleaning time, but we could have it whenever really.
  • Talent Show: Let’s show off our kids! A talent show would raise confidence, and we could see some cool ideas from the kids. The Learner Advisory Council will hopefully take over this idea.
  • Change Wars: Each squadron would get their own jar and have a competition to earn the most change for a duration (could be a month or even a couple of weeks) to win a pizza or donut party. We are thinking about the January timeframe.
  • Movie / Astronomy Nights: Projector area with food trucks. Possibly May.
  • Valentine’s Day: Telegrams, candy grams, and heart butter braids. Ideally, the Learner Advisory Council would take this over.
  • Debate Club: A learner at CSA has written a couple of proposals for a debate club at the school. We need to find others who are interested, a parent volunteer, and a facilitator to be there for meetings.
  • Staff Appreciation: We need volunteers to help between January through May to bring lunch for the staff.
