A Message from the Director

Hello, Colorado SKIES Academy Community!

We are winding down to the conclusion of our first school year with Thursday, May 21, being the last day of school for learners.  This is also the last day of the Shark Tank Presentations! There are a lot of activities in the next few weeks as we close out the year.

Shark Tank Week

Monday, May 18: Learners will attend their normal grade-specific General Session where they will meet in teams with their Shark Tank Coach. (All learners use the same Zoom link they have used throughout the Shark Tank Project.)  They will also check in to their usual Coaching Session at the end of the day for any last-minute questions. Learners only attend these two sessions. This is the last day for instruction, work time, etc. before the Shark Tank presentations begin.

Time Event Description
9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Grade 6 General Session
10:15 – 11:15 a.m Grade 7 General Session
11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Grade 8 General Session
12:45 – 1:15 p.m. Coaching Session – All Grades

On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, each Shark Tank team will do a brief presentation before our panel of Shark Tank judges. The presentation, including questions from the judges, will not be more than 10 minutes. As part of his/her final Shark Tank grade, each learner will  attend all twelve of the presentations given that day. For example, if a learner (with his/her team) presents on Wednesday, the learner will attend all the presentations given on Wednesday. Attendance will be monitored throughout the presentations.

Team presentation days and times will be posted in the Shark Tank Google Classroom by Monday, May 18, at 9:00 a.m.

All assignments for Quarter 4 and for the Shark Tank Project are due on or before 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 21.

Different portions of the Shark Tank project have been turned in as Q4 assignments for various content areas. For example, Slides 1-7 regarding the company statement, its mission statement, and its vision statement were a Language Arts grade. In addition, each learner will receive an individual, overall grade for the Shark Tank presentation coupled with his/her regular attendance and active participation in working with his/her team throughout the past five weeks. The overall grade is given by the learner’s Shark Tank Coach.

Chromebook, Library Books, and Any Other CSA Items Return Day: Tuesday, May 26

The following schedule outlines delivery times for any CSA items, such as Chromebooks, Chromebook charging cords, library books, textbooks, and/or other CSA items learners need to return. Please put all items in a plastic grocery bag or bags for ease in giving them to CSA staff members. The schedule is alphabetical by last name so that families with multiple learners have a specific time for their entire family. We ask that you drive up in front of the school as you do for pick-up and drop-off to return any CSA items. Please do not get out of your car. A CSA staff member will retrieve the bagged items from you.

Tuesday, May 26, Drop-Off Schedule

Last Name Drop-Off Time
A-E  (25 families) 9:00 – 9:30
F-J  (29 families) 9:30 – 10:00

S-Z  ((27 families) 10:30 – 11:00

If you cannot adhere to the designated times, please come between 3:00 and 4:30 p.m. or contact Mrs. Acheson at suzanne.acheson@csacs.org to arrange for a different time.

Lost & Found Articles

We have developed a short video of lost and found articles, and it is posted on the website. Please take a look at it, and if you can identify which item is yours, please contact Mrs. Acheson (suzanne.acheson@csacs.org) so the items can be placed in a labeled bag and given to you when you come to return your CSA items.

Grades Closed Out for the 2019-20 School Year

  • Facilitators will have through May 27 to complete any additional grading.
  • Final grades will be posted and available to view in PowerSchool on May 29.

8th Grade Continuation!

We will be holding a continuation ceremony outdoors on the Exploration of Flight ramp on Saturday, May 30, at 2:00 p.m. Please note that this celebration is open to only CSA 8th graders and their families. Details will be sent to all 8th grade learners and their families.

The next few weeks will be busy, as the last few weeks of school usually are, which is exciting and rewarding. In some ways, it is also bittersweet, especially this year. I truly enjoy seeing the excitement on learners’ faces as they look to moving up to the next grade, anxiously making summer plans with their school friends, and sharing their accomplishments for the year. I miss the interaction with all of our learners. I will miss seeing their excitement as they celebrate their successes from this past year. Yet, I have the chance to see learners one last time in person on May 26, and I look forward to seeing everyone in the Chromebook drop-off line!

Warm regards,

Suzanne Acheson
School Director
