Colorado SKIES Academy Families,

We are pleased to inform our school community that two CSI board members visited CSA last week for school tours and were impressed with the learning they witnessed while being in the building. We were also able to answer a few more questions they had about some of our back-office support and building financing, and we are very optimistic that we will achieve a positive outcome with our charter authorization transfer next month.

This week includes a welcome back for the learners who have been in Europe for the Oxford Educational Trip and learners who were in San Diego for the Drone Soccer World Cup. Please read more in this week’s CSA hiring article. We finish the week with our 6th graders getting their end-of-year experience in a hot air balloon ride on Friday, May 3rd, at sunrise (estimated at about 6 am). A friendly reminder that 6th graders won’t have school on Friday at CSA. We are rescheduling the hiring event that was originally scheduled for this Wednesday, May 1st, to later in the month.

CSA Charter Authorization Transfer Next Steps: As mentioned above, CSA has now completed all of the required steps to provide the necessary information to CSI staff so they can develop a recommendation to give their board of directors next month. The immediate next step is for CSI staff to provide their draft recommendation to CSA in a couple of weeks, and there will be a review of the detailed document with their board committee on May 14th. The CSI Board will hear the committee recommendation and vote on the school’s transfer application on May 21st.

CALLING ALL PARENTS AND FAMILIES! CSA is breaking up the next Star Search hiring event into two sessions. The in-person day will be on Wednesday, May 20th, and we will host a school tour and the demo lesson facilitation with candidates, so expect the event to last from roughly 8-11 am. We’re looking for three parents to participate in the morning and provide their feedback on the candidates. Please email christa.coryell@coloradoskiesacademy.org if you can assist with this unique event to identify the additional facilitators and staff that will support your learners next year.

Please read about future CSA events on our Community Calendar, including:

  1. Each grade level’s end-of-year experience field trip (6th, 7th, 8th Day 2)
  2. All-school Boondocks field trip
  3. 8th grade graduation
  4. 6th Grade Presentation of Learning: Poetry Slam
  5. 7th Grade Presentation of Learning: Mutations/Microgravity
  6. 8th Grade Presentation of Learning: Glider Planes

Have a great week!

In gratitude,

Directors Coryell and Motley
