Message from the Directors

Colorado SKIES Academy Families,

What a great week we had! Our 6th-grade learners are deep into their research on sustainability, 7th-graders are learning about birds and flight, and 8th-grade is hard at work on energy conservation and sustainability. The 8th graders finished up their drone unit with a Drone Soccer Tournament, and it was amazing to see all of the learning on display and their hard work being celebrated! Hopefully, you’re hearing about all of the amazing things happening at CSA at home, along with the daily facts we’re learning about in honor of Black History Month.

Ms. Motley and Ms. Subba were recognized by Chris Smith, the Superintendent of Cherry Creek School District, at a Celebration with the Superintendent event on Tuesday, February 6th, at Cherokee Trail High School. Congratulations to both of them! We are very fortunate and grateful to have these amazing ladies who pour so much of themselves into our learners and staff!

A group of CSA learners brought forward a proposal last week to create a Cultural Awareness Club that will meet after school on Fridays. The staff and administration are so proud of our learners for taking a leadership role in the school and bringing awareness to the amazing qualities of our diverse population! We will start by celebrating Chinese New Year this week, led by Ms. Uta, who lived in China for a while. The Cultural Awareness Club has also arranged a watch party on Friday for Hidden Figures. Learners are able to bring their own snack or purchase one from Ms. Shauntel and bring a blanket if they’d like. Keep your eye out for future cultural awareness activities organized by CSA learners.

Please read the articles in this week’s message, including our Quarter 2 Learners of Merit that were honored on Friday, the many ways to support CSA facilitators and learners through tax-deductible donations, information about Candy Grams from PAC (Parent Action Committee) on Valentine’s Day, the latest news from Athletic Development, summer camp details from local providers, upcoming events details, and more. Have a great week!

In gratitude,

Directors Coryell and Motley
