Acting Director Christa’s Message

Dear Colorado SKIES Academy Families,

What an amazing week of celebrating all of the amazing skills and accomplishments our learners have gained throughout their introductory project, City in the Sky! We hosted the final Presentations of Learning (POL) for 7th and 8th-grade learners this past Thursday and Friday, and we learned so much about different planets and their viability to support cities with human life. We hope that you enjoy the picture collages in the articles below! We also had our first shelter-in-place drill last week and the learners did a great job finding shelter and following directions.

As we’ve communicated with learners and families, schedules will be adjusted next week to group learners in their core content classes based on their demonstrated ability as measured by their NWEA MAP testing scores. Electives will remain the same through the end of Quarter 1. During this schedule update, we will also be condensing 6th grade from three sections to two based on the total number of learners we have in the grade.

Friendly reminder to review and initial your learner’s student planner each evening (M- Th). Learners who have 4 consecutive sign-offs from their parents and guardians received a free Kona Ice ticket for redemption! We have noticed quite a few learners consistently forget their lanyard. Your support in reminding learners about the importance of wearing their photo ID lanyard correctly is greatly appreciated. Please take a moment to review these important back-to-school reminders and continue to review our CSA Learner Creed and Community Expectations with your learner. Also, we’ve had some parents and community members inquire about wish lists and ways to donate. Currently, we have 3 main ways to donate, found here.

Please be sure to check the articles below which highlight upcoming CSA events including the CSA Parent Training on Flight and Drone Simulators, the CSA Parent Action Committee (PAC) kickoff meeting, and Wingman for Day details. You’ll also find information about the many aviation-focused events happening soon at Wings Over the Rockies Exploration of Flight!

Sincerely,
Christa Coryell
CSA Acting Director
