Message from the Director

Colorado SKIES Academy Families,

Our apologies for not sending a Flight Path message last week. We have quite a bit of information to share with you so please be sure to read this week’s Directors Message and articles in their entirety. The Project 1 activities are well underway so we hope you’re hearing about your learner’s experiences with cosmos, martian societies, and space exploration.

We have an exciting and busy week coming up! Our 8th graders will be going to Arapahoe/Douglas Works! Programs Career Fair on Wednesday, September 25th, in Aurora. If you haven’t received the permission slip from your learner, please reach out to Ms. Thain (emily.thain@coloradoskiesacademy.org). Parents/guardians are responsible for drop-off and pick-up, and carpooling is okay.

Our CSA girls will be going to Transportation & Construction GIRL Day at Jefferson County Fairgrounds on Thursday, September 26th. There will be bus transportation provided, and the bus will leave from CSA at 8:15 am. The event ends at 1:30 pm and the bus will return all CSA learners and chaperones back to the school. If you have any questions about the field trip for the CSA girls, please reach out to Ms. Thain. While the girls are enjoying their day at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, the CSA boys will be heading to Denver Jet Center for a tour in the morning and will likely meet with the Centennial Airport Operations Team in the afternoon.

As outlined on the CSA Academic Calendar, we will have Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) meetings with each learner’s Flight Crew Commander and parents/guardians on Thursday, September 26th, after school and Friday, September 27th. There will be no school for learners on Friday, September 27th, so that the CSA staff can participate in the ILP meetings with learners and families. Please refer to the Individualized Learning Plan article for more information on what will be covered in the meeting and to sign up to help with breakfast and dinner items for CSA staff that is sponsored by the CSA Parent Action Committee.

CSA’s first Spirit Night event is on Thursday, September 26th, at Urban Air Aurora from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm. Urban Air will give 20% of the proceeds back to CSA! The pricing for the event is $25.99 for the Platinum Attractions pass, $20.99 for the Ultimate Attractions pass, and $16.99 for the Deluxe Attractions pass. Socks are required, and the Spirit Night for CSA must be mentioned at the time of purchase. Urban Air Aurora is located at 15400 E. Briarwood Circle, Aurora, CO 80016.

Please be sure to read the articles in this week’s Flight Path that include sign-up details to provide breakfast and dinner items for CSA staff during ILP meetings this week, important information about the fast-approaching and critical October Count process, a recap of CSA’s dismissal procedures, details on completing CSA’s Express Check-In Form, and school picture ordering from DR Photo.

Please also browse CSA’s Community Calendar for details on upcoming events like Girls in Aviation Day, monthly CSA board meetings, the return of Wingman for a Day events where interested middle school students can shadow a current CSA learner for the morning, and more! You’ll also find information about the many aviation-focused events happening soon at Wings Over the Rockies Exploration of Flight!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. We’re always here to support you and your learner and are excited to soar to new heights together!

In partnership, Directors Coryell and Motley
