Message from the Director, Suzanne Acheson

Dear Colorado SKIES Academy Community,

With all that has been in the news of late with the STEM school and others here in Colorado, there is uncertainty and concern, and rightly so. To that end, it is essential that we, Colorado SKIES Academy, ensure we are doing everything to provide a safe and secure learning environment. So, what is happening?

  1. Colorado SKIES administration has identified funds to provide for either an Arapahoe County SRO (School Resource Officer) or a private security officer from a bonded security agency to be on campus throughout the school day. To date, it is not certain if it will be full-time or three-quarters time. We will advise you of the outcome.
  2. Colorado SKIES administration is working closely with the Cherry Creek School District Security Director, Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, the COO of Wings Over The Rockies Exploration of Flight, and Centennial Airport to guarantee that we have a fully supported, top-notch security plan for both our modular facility as well as our permanent facility.
  3. Colorado SKIES Academy will be licensing with an agency that does sex offender background checks on all persons wishing to enter the school along with other security protocol checks. We will also be tracking every person, family, or visitor entering the school for any reason. This is a system equal to the one that is used throughout the Cherry Creek School District, just provided by a different vendor.
  4. Social-emotional supports are integral to providing a safe and secure environment. Colorado SKIES Academy has a goal to establish a Code of Ethics that promotes a policy of supporting each learner individually and being proactive in identifying what each and every learner needs in order to thrive in our productive environment. In the next few weeks, we will be sharing our Code of Ethics with parents. Early detection and support is the key to supporting learners in every way!

We are committed to providing necessary supports for each learner to grow and to thrive.  We will team with you, our families, who know our learners best, to provide a supportive environment for each learner to reach his or her fullest potential. We want your learner to soar to the skies — the Colorado SKIES!

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. We will be having some upcoming Parent Forums for question and answer sessions so you know how we will support and encourage your learner in a safe and secure learning environment.
