February is Black History Month. To celebrate/commemorate this month, here’s what we are doing in classrooms:
6th Grade Specials:Creating a community map celebrating identity
6th Grade Specials: Creating song lyrics reflective of culture or interests.
7th Grade Specials: Conducting a virtual ‘interview’ of a black person in history or a community map celebrating identity.
7th Grade Math: Learning about famous black Americans and their contributions to Math
7th Grade Math: Learning about a “Black Mathematician” of the day.
8th Grade Math: Considering the Contributions of Black Americans in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine.
8th Grade Math: Pythagorean theorem with black mathematicians
8th Grade Math: Creating linear equations y: mx+b ( ruse /run), creating black mathematicians history.
8th Grade US History: Exploring Black History in the US through various aspects of US culture from Baseball, Music, Science etc…some examples of persons of note are Trombone Shorty, Katherine Johnson (NASA) and the Buffalo Soldiers.
Thank you PAC (Parent Action Committee) for your hard work to make our Valentine’s day celebration a huge success where all learners got to tidy up the building and enjoy hot chocolates and cookies. Learners were super excited about this!
Special appreciation to 8th grade Learner Ambassadors for putting together”Candy Grams!” It was a great fundraising event and the learners got to deliver special messages to their friends, peers and staff of the school. We know that you all worked hard to put this event together and you made our valentine’s that much special. We made $300! Thank you.
