As a Project-Based Learning (PBL) school, our facilitators are working extra hard to select grade-level projects and driving questions that are engaging, rigorous, and authentic. The questions drive the project and help to make the curriculum they are learning and make bigger connections to the world. We want to ensure that all our learners have the tools they need to be successful.
As explained by PBL Works: “PBL blends content mastery, meaningful work, and personal connection to create powerful learning experiences, in terms of both academic achievement and students’ personal growth. PBL leads to deeper understanding and greater retention of content knowledge. Students are better able to apply what they know to new situations. A great project can be transformative for students. Seeing a real-world impact gives them a sense of agency and purpose.”
At Colorado SKIES Academy, project-based learning is different from traditional work done in school. Understanding PLB, the WHY and expectations will greatly benefit you and your child. Each week CSA facilitators update their newsletter to share projects, driving questions and assignments.
Here are our current projects:
Grade 6: Museum of the future past (POL on 3/11)
Grade 7: Mini POL ‘I 💙 DNA day’ on 2/14, Genes & Ethics (POL on 3/11)
Grade 8: Change Maker – Drones
Social Studies: Change Making Drone Panel (POL on 3/3)
Science: Drone Soccer Tournament (POL on 3/10)
Communication with parents is what we strive to get better at. Here’s how you can see what is happening in your learner’s classroom. Each facilitator updates weekly activities on our website. Under “News” on the top banner, click on ‘Facilitator Newsletters’.
