Message from the Director

Dear Colorado SKIES Families,

Every new venture goes through changes and a growing period. Colorado SKIES Academy is no exception. This past week we have tested and refined our delayed start plan, early release plan, and snow day plan — all in one week! Thank you all for your continued patience and support. Through this process, I learned that even though we may follow Cherry Creek School District’s schedule for delayed start and school closures, our needs are very different. Colorado SKIES will continue to evaluate the situation and make decisions that are best for our learners and families, even if they are different from the decisions made by CCSD.

Next Wednesday, November 6, is the 6th grade Presentation of Learning! Be sure to mark your calendars, 6th grade families! They will be launching high-altitude weather balloons from the Clay Lacey Ramp at Blue Skies Exploration of Flight, gathering data from their experiments, and predicting the flight pattern and landing spot for the weather balloons. The FAA, Centennial Airport Tower, and other agencies are all on board and supporting our learners’ launch. Watch our website (and visit with your learner) for specific dates when 7th and 8th grade Presentations of Learning are scheduled.

Again, we are looking for volunteers anyone who is or has been a pilot to be trained in the flight simulators at Blue Skies Exploration of Flight. We need more volunteers, so if you or someone you know is a pilot interested in volunteering, please contact the Main Office and identify yourself as a “Pilot Volunteer” and we will guide you through the process.

Lastly, JHL, the construction company for our new building, will be mobilizing and preparing the construction site in the next week or so. We will be sharing a map of the site with families so that you are aware of the changes. There will not be any impact on drop-off and pick-up traffic when the new building construction gets underway. It’s an exciting time to be part of Colorado SKIES Academy!

Warm regards,

Suzanne Acheson

School Director
