Colorado SKIES Academy Families,
You may have noticed that our weekly newsletter changed its title from Monday Message to Weekly Flight Path. This is a result of our transition to Colorado Charter School Institute (CSI) and away from our Education Management Provider, Maker Learning Network (MLN). We are extremely grateful to MLN for their leadership in establishing Colorado SKIES Academy and their support of our school through our first five years.
We have a lot of information to share this week, please read the Weekly Flight Plan in its entirety. Thank you to all families who attended the New Family Orientation and Back to School Block Party nights last week. We hope that you found the time spent at CSA valuable and informative. Anyone who missed them can find the information covered during these events in the articles below.
Dismissal Procedure: Please note that we will be dismissing in the afternoons this first week using CSA’s All Call procedures. This means that the carline will open at 2:45 pm, and when the bell rings at 3:00 pm, all learners will exit out of the front doors.
There will be an adult at the crosswalk directing all learners to walk down the center line between the cars. If they see their car in that section, then they get in. There will be another adult standing at the end of the lane before the curve, and if learners get to that adult without seeing their ride, they get on the sidewalk and walk back to the crosswalk.
Once the front lanes of the carline look to have their learners, the adults at the crosswalk will start releasing cars to exit the parking lot. They will be looking for a thumbs up or thumbs down from the driver in each car. A thumbs up indicates that the driver has their learner and is ready to leave. A thumbs down means that the driver does not have their learner and cannot exit the carline. This continues until the carline is cleared. Please do not call your learner over to your car. This causes confusion and delays in the dismissal process.
We are usually through the dismissal process in less than 15 minutes when directions are thoroughly followed. Please be patient this first week as everyone gets used to the process, and please drive the speed limit, 5 mph, in our parking lot at all times.
It is also important to enter and exit the CSA parking lot per the Driveline Procedures located on the Back to School Information Hub.
A friendly reminder that only 6th graders will come to school on Monday, August 12th, for a half day (8 am – 12 pm). They will meet their facilitators, see where their classes and lunch are, and ask questions. We have secured a Care Team Member to assist with supervision after dismissal so if needed, your learner can remain at school until 5 pm, and there will be a one-punch charge for the time.
Our 7th and 8th-grade learners will join the 6th grade for a full day on Tuesday, August 13th. As a reminder, school days are 8:00 am – 3:00 pm, and if needed, families can drop learners off as early as 7:00 am. We will not have all of the after-school club details worked out for the first week, but if needed, learners will be able to stay at school until 5:00 pm with supervision provided.
If you are interested in carpooling with another CSA family, please visit the Carpool Signup under Resources. Once you complete the form, you will receive a link to the Google carpool map that shows the contact information for other CSA families that are interested in carpooling. Another suggestion is to ask caregivers of your learner’s friends as we’ve seen many families carpooling that way, too.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. We’re always here to support you and your learner. Welcome back, and let’s soar to new heights together!
In partnership,
Directors Coryell and Motley
