Dear Colorado SKIES Academy Families and Friends,
The most pressing question on everyone’s mind is, “When do we get into the modulars?” This is a question I have been asking throughout the week. During our regular Thursday OAC (Owner-Architect-Construction) meeting for updates on the modulars, as well as our new building, the following updates were shared:
- Tuesday, 9/3, at 6:30 a.m.: State Inspectors will be onsite to determine if CSA receives a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy. (Learners can occupy the modulars once we have this in place.)
- On Saturday, 8/31, I was onsite and inspected the assembly and placement of classroom furniture. All is in place and ready.
- Plumbing contractors were onsite on 8/31 doing final tests, modifications, and inspections prior to Tuesday. I met with them personally to ascertain the status of their progress.
- Fire inspectors have been present, and all is a go thus far. The only unknown is if all of the wiring in the modulars is completely operational.
- Concrete sidewalks are poured and cured. All ramps and stairs leading to the modulars are set and ready to go.
- Full internet service is pending. We are pushing Comcast hard to install our full internet service quickly. We have hot spots in place to service the school. Yet, this is not enough to properly administer MAP testing so learners’ testing sessions are interruption-free — the only way to administer the test to obtain proper results from learners is to create an interruption-free, stress-free environment. Unfortunately, we are not there yet.
- If the state inspection requires us to be in the Exploration of Flight Gallery one or two more days, we are ready. Our learners know the drill.
- A final note: Please encourage your learners not to take the opportunity to be in an airplane hangar as a school for granted. We are on the verge of losing this privilege because learners are not being the responsible people we know they can be. It is simple — leave the hangar better than it was when you arrived.
In anticipation of our state inspection, I hope every learner and family is sending positive thoughts, prayers, karma — whatever it takes — to bring all of the elements to fruition. We are SO CLOSE! I have been guaranteed that we will be in the modulars this week! State inspections and all!
An important date to mark on your calendar (Please be sure to visit our school calendar on our website):
- September 10, 6-7:30 p.m.: Wingman for A Day! (i.e. Back to School Night with a CSA twist)
In closing, please know how much I appreciate your learners, willing to go the extra mile, being willing to be the “first” group of CSA learners. Please know how indebted we are to each of you by entrusting us with the most precious part of you, your children, to meet their needs, embolden them to take on project-based learning in a way that they may never have done before, and to know that we have the best interests of them, YOUR learners at heart!
Kindest regards,
Suzanne Acheson
