“Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go, they merely determine where you start.” ~ Nido Qubein

5 Ways to Survive the End of the School Year  – The end of the school year can be tough for students, teachers, and families as a season of life is wrapping up and there are many stressors present with deadlines, scheduling conflicts, and end-of-the-year celebrations. It can be both fun and stressful, which is why having tips and tricks to end the school year successfully can be so beneficial.

  • Keep Things in Perspective: remember that the end of the school year is in sight and your goal is to learn, not to become overwhelmed or inundated with tasks. Nothing has to be perfect, it is simply a place and opportunity to learn and try.
  • Practice Grounding: When anxiety takes over, practice becoming more mindful by noticing your surroundings. A helpful grounding technique is 5-4-3-2-1 which is 5 things you see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can smell, 2 things you can feel and 1 thing you can taste. This helps bring you back to the present and focus on what you’re working on.
  • Let Yourself Feel Your Feelings: If you’re feeling tired or angry, feel those feelings. It is healthy and natural to experience a variety of feelings and once you have allowed yourself to feel, then you can implement coping strategies and get back to the task at hand. Remember that no emotion is permanent, allow yourself to feel without judgment
  • Schedule Activities to Look Forward to: Positive incentives can help motivate individuals to finish out the year when they know they have something to look forward to. You’ve worked hard this year so give yourself a reward.
  • Join a Group: Having accountability can be super helpful in finishing out the year. A group of individuals where you can safely vent about the frustrations of work, homework or activities can be really beneficial to feel heard and not feel alone.
