Each year, in partnership with the CCSD Security team and local law enforcement, every school conducts at least one Lockdown Drill. This ensures that every adult and student in the building knows what to do – and what NOT to do – in the event of a real emergency involving danger (specifically an active shooter) inside the school building.
During this training session, the District Security team will speak to all of our students and staff members about what is going to happen and what to expect before conducting a Lockdown Drill. During the drill, security and law enforcement will walk through the building to examine how everyone is responding and provide feedback to specific groups/individuals to improve the safety of their responses. Following the drill, security and law enforcement will meet with administrators to discuss overall feedback and how we can better train everyone.
We understand that this kind of a drill can be very stressful for some members of our community, and we recommend that you take some time to speak with your child about this upcoming drill to help allay any of their fears. If you feel it would be best, you can certainly choose to keep your child home for the day; however, we urge you to bring them to participate so they have the benefit of practice and reassurance from law enforcement.
Thank you for your partnership in this incredibly important training and preparation!
