Dear CSA Families,
I hope you’ve noticed a change to the photos we are now including that announce the Monday Message! Moving forward, you will have an updated photo, courtesy of Wember, Inc. or JHL, Inc., our construction folks, that shows our building progress! CSA’s permanent building IS a REALITY! Spread the word! Our new facility is on the move for the 2020-21 school year!
We have several exciting events coming up!
High School Transition Night for 8th Grade Families, February 12, 6:00 p.m.
Counselors from Cherry Creek School District, Cherry Creek Innovation Center, the Wings Over the Rockies “Wings Aerospace Program” for high schoolers, and others will give a 5-10-minute presentation, followed by a Q&A session. Find out what the options and possibilities are for your CSA 8th grader!
Save the date for Presentations of Learning! Thursday, February 13, 8:15 a.m. to noon
Hosting Presentations of Learning on a full school day instead of on a Friday will be different for us. We hope you can join us and see the amazing learning!
- Grade 6: The Geology of the Moon and Mars
- Grade 7: The Colonization of the Moon and Mars
- Grade 8: Advanced Rocketry – Please note: Due to our recent inclement weather, we’ve had to postpone our rocket launches. Once the snow clears, we have a park and the football field at Valor Christian High School (due to a school connection) as potential launch locations. Stay tuned for a new launch date!
CSA Starry Night School Dance, February 21, 6:30-10:00 p.m.
This event will be held at the Blue Skies Gallery Exploration of Flight and the school is covering the costs of the decorations and the off-duty police officer. Our setup crew will be there earlier. Fellow learners will inform your learner if they’re part of the setup crew.
Hats off to our catalyst group, Hayden, Masyn, Alyssa, and more! My apologies for not including everyone here. Once the event is complete, all of the setup crew, cleanup crew, chaperones, food sale crew, etc. will be highlighted in the Monday Message as a celebration of our first school dance! I cannot tell you how excited I am that our learners are taking the lead in making all the arrangements! Our learners are leading the charge, learning organization, planning, budgeting, and marketing skills! This is their dance!
Parents, we will be encouraging learners (who are not part of the cleanup crew or any other crew that needs to stay) to contact you and have you in the parking lot at 10:00 p.m. ready to take them home.
Any and all parent involvement is welcome! Some of you have already been approached by your learner to be a chaperone, oversee the sales of food/beverages (as chosen by learners), or check off learners as they arrive. You might be chaperoning the setup or tear-down crews. Please know that any parent chaperoning the dance time will be involved in a briefing with me, the School Director, prior to the dance. Everyone will have an assigned role, a flashlight (it is necessary!), and we will have a rotation schedule. As I have supervised numerous proms, high school homecoming dances, and winter snow dances, this is not my first rodeo. We will have an organized, wonderful, safe, enjoyable time for our learners. Please know that we will be hiring an off-duty SRO for the evening to be with us.
CSA Reach for the Stars Gala! Saturday, March 28, 6:30-10:00 p.m.
Every learner and family should mark this date as a MUST-ATTEND on their calendar. Public charter schools do not have the same given, paid-for support as traditional public schools do, and public charter schools pay for every little extra. For example, we pay for PowerSchool so all of our parents have access to learner information, such as attendance and grades. We pay for any additional support from CCSD for our learners, as we are a charter school, not a traditional public school that is part of the CCSD system. Everything we receive from CCSD is invoiced and paid for by Colorado SKIES Academy.
Fundraising is a routine, natural part of charter school life. Stay tuned for your opportunity to participate in many different ways! We are blessed to have a wonderful opportunity to invite the aviation and aerospace industry to our gala, providing them an opportunity to support our education efforts at our gala event. We will be showcasing our learners’ achievements and our school, with the goal of highlighting all the good things CSA is doing. We will also have the opportunity to honor a community member who embodies the aerospace community commitment to education.
8th Grade Continuation! Saturday, May 22, 2:00 p.m.
This day will be here before you know it! For all our 8th grade families, please reserve this Saturday afternoon starting at 2:00 p.m. to join us in honoring our 8th grade learners as they take that next important step in their educational journey to high school.
Our first year is running away, and it feels like we just got started! I love CSA, and I am committed to the success of your learners. If there is anything I can do to help you, to support your learner, to make your experience better, I am only a phone call away. Spread the word about the good things CSA is doing for your learner! Let people know that we are a math/science/aerospace place to be where learners can see what project-based learning is like with an aerospace focus! Share the news! CSA is where it’s AT!
Warm regards,
Suzanne Acheson
School Director
