Greetings, Colorado SKIES Families and Friends!
On Friday, November 22, our learners were able to hear from Dr. Cohen, a research scientist from NASA Ames. He shared wonderful experiences and insights about his work on the next phase of space exploration, the Artemis Project. As he explained to our learners, Apollo had a twin, Artemis, and when our current 7th graders are graduating from college, they will be the ones to be part of the first manned stations on the moon with intent for manned flights to Mars. It is truly an astounding time to be attending Colorado SKIES Academy!
As we now are in the midst of the season of celebration, enjoying our initial accomplishments, we also have a lot yet to come! On Friday, December 6, Erica Armstrong, the author of A Chick in the Cockpit will do a presentation for all CSA and Wings learners from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Ms. Armstrong is introducing Captain Sullenberger, the pilot of the flight that landed in the Hudson, the night before at a gala event hosted by Wings Over the Rockies. The next day, she is sharing her experiences as a pilot. At the conclusion of her presentation, she is available for autographs. (A limited number of her books will be available at the event, so learners may want to purchase a copy in advance.) There will be limited seating available for parents and family members for $5 each.
On Friday, December 13, we celebrate breaking ground for our new school! School will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. to allow learners to join their families at 12:45 p.m. at Blue Skies Exploration of Flight. The ceremonial breaking of ground is at 1:00 p.m. followed by some light refreshments and our learners’ Showcase of Learning to the public. We have also invited our educational and industry supporters to join us, and the list is long! Please plan to celebrate this momentous occasion in the life of Colorado SKIES Academy!
As we all know, once construction is officially underway and people can see the new building taking shape, they will be keenly interested in being a part of our school. Many times this summer, we heard that parents would enroll their learner only if there was a permanent building. So now is the time for you, our loyal founding families, to be sure to complete your re-enrollment. The re-enrollment form is available now through December 31 under the Enroll Now button. Don’t delay! The number of re-enrolled students as of January 1 determines how many seats are left and available to new learners. Our open enrollment window for new learners is January 15-31.
Lastly, a special thanks to the hardworking folks at Blue Skies Exploration of Flight as we finally have a schedule set for all of our learners to access the flight simulators. On the third Wednesday and Thursday of every month (dependent on volunteer staff), our learners are scheduled to use the flight simulators on a rotating basis. Again, one more step in establishing the logistics with outside agencies to benefit our learners.
It is my sincere hope that you and your learner(s) are seeing the hard work, dedication, devotion, and diligence present in every CSA staff member and supporter. More and more events and plans are being executed. More and more opportunities for our learners are being provided. I am forever grateful to all of you who have been with us since August 19 or before, remaining patient yet expectant. I will continue to press on to provide all that we have promised and more, for our current and future learners’ success in high school and beyond.
Warm regards,
Suzanne Acheson
School Director
