It was such a pleasure to meet our new families and have meaningful conversations about how we do school at CSA. Additional information about the topics that were covered are linked below for anyone who would like to review.
Ms. Coryell: Charter vs. Public Schools
Ms. Motley: Traditional Discipline vs. Restorative Practices
Mrs. Buckendahl: Gold Standard Project-Based Learning (PBL)
Mr. Kemper: Group Learning
Mrs. La Grange: Integrated Learning, Design Guide, and Rubrics
Mr. S: Classroom Setup:
- We have pockets of children scattered throughout the room and in the hallway, eagerly working together in varying group sizes to solve challenging questions. PBL usually portrays a conglomerate gathering of students collectively creating, researching, writing, and exploring. Ultimately, students learn to listen, and they learn how to interact with many different types of individuals.
Ms. K & Ms. A: Social-Emotional Learning and Support
- Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success. SEL helps people develop skills to manage their emotions, set goals, and make responsible decisions.
- People with strong social-emotional skills are better able to cope with everyday challenges and benefit academically, professionally, and socially. From effective problem-solving to self-discipline, impulse control to emotion management, and more, SEL provides a foundation for positive, long-term effects on kids, adults, and communities.
- Children thrive. Schools win. Workplaces benefit. Society strengthens. All due to social-emotional learning.
