Colorado SKIES Academy Families,
We can’t believe we’re less than a week away from welcoming learners back to school! As mentioned last week, please visit the Back to School Information Hub for important details. We also want to clarify a few things that have come up in the last few days.
Families new to CSA should join us this Thursday, August 8th, from 5-7 pm for New Family Orientation. Details can be found on the information hub link above. All CSA families need to attend the Back to School Block Party on Friday, August 9th, from 5-7 pm. Please refer to the information hub link for details. If you’re not able to make it on August 9th, please email info@coloradoskiesacademy.org so we can schedule time for you to receive your carline number for pickup, your learner’s Squadron Commander for their Flight Crew, and other important information needed before the first day of school.
Only 6th graders will come to school on Monday, August 12th, for a half day. They will have a chance to meet their facilitators, see where their classes and lunch are, and ask questions. There will be no after-school clubs, so please pick up your 6th grader at 12:00 pm on Monday, August 12th.
Our 7th and 8th-grade learners will join the 6th grade for a full day on Tuesday, August 13th. As a reminder, school days are 8:00 am-3:00 pm, and families can drop learners off as early as 7:00 am if needed. We will not have all of the after-school club details worked out for the first week, but learners can stay at school until 5:00 pm if needed, with supervision provided. If your learner will stay after school, please purchase a punch pass here.
Please be aware that the first week of school, Tuesday through Friday, will be spent administering the NWEA MAP tests to get baseline assessments for core skills and place learners in the appropriate ability groupings for math and reading. Each learner tests in Math, Science, Language Usage, and Reading. The goal is for learners to take 1-2 tests daily so all are complete by Friday. As a result, learners won’t have a full day of their scheduled classes until Monday, August 19th, when we will kick off each grade level’s introductory project involving the International Space Station. Please reach out to the administration if you have any questions.
We can’t wait to see you and your learners for our back-to-school activities later this week! Thank you for your continued patience and support as we finalize the processes and procedures needed to become part of the Charter School Institute network of schools.
In partnership, Director Coryell
