Greetings, Colorado SKIES Academy families,
I am humbled to introduce myself as your new Interim School Director. I am honored to have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of our inaugural school director and lead a school with such high-achieving learners, a supportive school community, and extremely dedicated staff.
Having already been a part of the admin team that has worked tirelessly in such a challenging year with COVID-19 and moving into a brand-new building, I am excited about the opportunities that await me in this new role. I am an educator of over 20 years with both teaching and admin experience, a bachelor’s degree in visual arts and physical education, and a master’s degree in educational leadership.
As school leaders, our role is to nurture learners’ creativity and imagination and to encourage lifelong learning. With the use of the project-based learning model and along with our learner data, I hope to build upon the strength of the instructional designs already being implemented at Colorado SKIES Academy. I will place learners at the center of all school-related decisions and strive to finish out this year strong. I have an open-door policy and look forward to working with you all on this Colorado SKIES journey.
On a final note, I am happy to share that starting this past Tuesday and Thursday, our learners have the opportunity to visit the Blue Sky Gallery at Wings Over the Rockies. This opportunity will continue every week throughout the remainder of the year. As we move forward, I will share photos and stories from these experiences.
I also want to remind everyone that the upcoming board meeting has been moved to Thursday, April 1. We do plan on having CMAS testing coming up and will let you know if there are any changes. Because of this testing, we are moving the Learner-Led Conferences to April 21-22. We will assign learners a day and time as we approach these dates.
Remember to order your lunches from Mile High, and note that we now have a milk program! We have teamed up with Royal Crest and can offer white or chocolate milk for $1.
On Friday, April 16, we will have a full day from 8:00 AM-3:30 PM, and it’ll be jam-packed with fun. We will start the day with class pictures, so dress your best! Then we will have our very first in-school Squadron Dance from 2:00-3:30 PM. All learners will also be getting a tour of the DC3 plane over at Wings!
Last but not least, be sure to mark your calendars for Spirit Week April 26-30!
With gratitude,
Josh Rau
