Dear Colorado Skies Academy Families,

CSA remains committed to supporting you in maintaining safe learning and working environments for all members of our school community. Discrimination, harassment, or bullying based on a protected class is strictly prohibited at CSI and CSI schools, as outlined in the Nondiscrimination Policy. Below are important reminders, next steps, and resources that our authorizer shared with us. We believe that they may be beneficial information for families.

Important Reminders

  • Protection Against Discrimination: Federal and state laws, including Title IV, Title VI, and Colorado’s Anti-Discrimination Act (§ 24-34-601, C.R.S.), prohibit discrimination and harassment based on protected classes such as national origin, race, and color. School policies reflect these protections, and families can address concerns through established procedures.
  • Access to Public Education: The 1982 Supreme Court ruling in Plyler v. Doe guarantees all students, regardless of immigration status, access to a free public education. Schools should not request or retain records of students’ immigration status, as it is not a factor in enrollment. Any records currently held by the school are confidential.
  • Student Privacy: FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) restricts access to student records to protect privacy.

Next Steps/Considerations

  • Families to Review/Update Emergency Contacts: Please update your emergency contacts and individuals approved to pick up your learner (including older siblings). These trusted adults do not need to be family members.
  • Vulnerable Families can Create a Family Preparedness Plan
  • Colorado’s Anti-Discrimination Act (§ 24-34-601, C.R.S.), prohibits discrimination and harassment based on protected classes such as national origin, race, and color. School policies reflect these protections, and families can address concerns through established procedures.

Please contact CSA for any further questions you may have or support you may need.

Exciting news! CSA has partnered with GoKid Connect to assist our families in scheduling and managing safe carpooling to and from school. You can read more in this week’s CSA GoKid Connect article

Please remind your learners to check the lost and found (in the front foyer of the school) for lost jackets, sweaters, water bottles, and planners. Please click here to see what’s currently in the lost and found.

If you would like to contribute to ensuring that our learners can access musical instruments, please check out Ms. Gispan’s Donors page, Music of Spheres and Time. Click this link to explore what is needed or email her at mary.gispan@coloradoskiesacademy.org.

In partnership,

Director Christa Coryell, Campus Director Meredith Motley, and Chief of Staff Jennifer Tilghman
