A Message from the Director

Hello, Colorado SKIES Families!

Last week I mentioned the changes and growth Colorado SKIES is experiencing, and I’m thrilled to share some wonderful news! The construction fencing is up, and as of Thursday, we were approved for the bond that will finance the construction of our new building!

On Friday, many of you, our wonderful parents, came out to support our 7th and 8th grade learners and see their Presentations of Learning. It was a wonderful event where the talents and accomplishments of our 7th and 8th grade students were the highlight of the day. A special thanks to all of our facilitators for preparing our learners so they could truly shine! I hope you saw, as I did, the preparation, the attention to detail, and the earnest work in doing their best that every learner brought to the day! Truly a celebration of learning!

We have so much to celebrate, but we have more to do. We were funded with an anticipated enrollment of 225 students but only had an official October count of 118. Thus, the funding difference causes some budgetary challenges that are inherent with a start-up school. Yet, we have an investor who was willing to take a chance on a start-up innovation school and fund our new building! In addition, there are so many others waiting in the wings to support our school. We are on an upward trajectory, ready to soar!

How will we soar? In December, you will have the opportunity to re-enroll your learner for next year.  With the opportunities presented thus far, it is our sincerest hope that you will join us in our new building, with established curriculum that is being built this year, and with ever-increasing industry partnerships…all in a new facility.  The Re-Enrollment Form will be available for all of you from December 1 to December 31. Don’t delay! If you don’t re-enroll during this time period, you will be part of the original enrollment list like a new student for the coming school year. Come December 1, be ready to get on the website to re-enroll!

Lastly, Colorado SKIES was able to host Erika Armstrong, the author of A Chick in the Cockpit, to be a guest speaker for all CSA learners as well as the students from the Wings Over the Rockies school on December 6. It will be an all-school assembly during school hours at the Blue Skies Exploration of Flight! Stay tuned for details on time, etc. Parents and interested parties can attend for a nominal fee of $5. Ms. Armstrong will have a few books available at the event for autographing, but CSA learners who want to be sure to have a book for her to sign will want to purchase a book prior to the event.  Ms Armstrong will be introducing Captain “Sully” Sullenberger at the Spreading Wings Gala at the Wings Over the Rockies Gala at the Lowry Location on December 5.

Lots of things are happening at CSA! CSA is on the move!

Warm regards,

Suzanne Acheson
